Make a Statement with a Cocktail Ring

Make a Statement with a Cocktail Ring

Consider this a show piece. The kind of jewel to build an outfit around.  Be bold, express yourself or the character of the wearer.  At its conception the cocktail ring was a symbol of fun but also of defiance...

The cocktail ring came about in the 1920's during the prohibition era.  Women were beginning to enter the professional world, earn money and feel more liberated.  Bright, often garish over-sized rings were worn to illicit cocktail parties and indicated the wearer's insouciant disregard for the law and uninhibited sense of themselves.  To order a refill at such a speakeasy the right hand with the ring on might be flashed in the air for attention.

So, choose a colour that is bright, joyful and brave. It doesn't have to be worn all the time. At the same time, think about the base colours that your partner wears consider a gemstone that is a complimentary or accent colour to their general palette.  So if one's underlying palette is earthy, autumnal tones, consider bright orange Mandarin Garnet, Purple Sapphire or Amethyst.
