The vast majority of sapphires and rubies are heat-treated to enhance their colour and evenness of hue. When the decision is made not to heat-treat, it is purely for one reason.... they are just right as they are. This one is and happens to be of tremendous value. The value of unheated, treated sapphires of this hue have strengthened considerably in recent years.
