Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Ring

As bespoke jewellery designers in Hatton Garden we often get some really lovely projects. Such as when we were commissioned by our client, Ben, to handcraft a very special engagement ring with a lab grown diamond.

Having initially met Ben over a coffee at a networking event in The City, it was only a matter of time before he realised that the moment had come to pop the question to Ash, his girlfriend. After an initial chat he knew that we were the jewellers he wanted to design their engagement ring so we invited Ben to 31, Hatton Garden, where the magic happens.

Designing a very special bespoke Engagement Ring

Lab Grown Diamond v Real Diamond - how did Ben choose?
Geoff:  I recommended it. Ben knew he wanted a diamond but didn’t know anything about the alternatives currently available.

Ben liked the idea that if he used a lab grown diamond in their bespoke engagement ring then the diamond was ethical and entirely traceable. He also liked that he could have a considerably superior diamond for his budget, as lab grown diamonds cost significantly less. 

Engagement ring design process - was Ben involved?
Geoff: Yes. Ben’s partner Ash is a dancer. Ben liked the idea of a flowing element to the design of the engagement ring, something entwined, like lace perhaps. We felt it should also be modern and not too traditional with some added feature and element to support the centre stone.

We looked at various stones and in the end chose this diamond, which was very clean, white and full of life.  The bespoke design fell into place quite naturally, after looking at different styles and playing around with ideas.

The Proposal - she said yes!

After the proposal, we asked Ben how it went!

What did the bride-to-be think about her Lab Grown Diamond Engagement ring?
Ben: Ash loves the ring and the lab grown, ethical diamond. She has had loads of lovely comments about it. People have said it's a unique and unusual design. 

How did you find the whole Bespoke Jewellery experience?
Ben: Geoff was amazing throughout the process. I went in knowing nothing about rings and he helped me to choose a stone and find inspiration for the engagement ring. Working with him has allowed me to create a really unique bespoke design which makes it so much more special than an off-the-shelf ring. I have already started recommending Geoff and Patrick to my friends.
